75% of industrial heat
is still fossil.

Electrifying processes is expensive and inefficient, with major conversion losses.

Our solution: Storing solar heat in sand, cutting costs and carbon emissions in industry.

Electrification is not a solution

Direct electrification of high-temperature processes results in major conversion losses and high operational costs.

Limited Alternatives

Current renewable alternatives — like wood chips or bio-oil — are costly and limited in scalability.

Industrial Application

Thermal sand storage +
concentrating solar power

Simple and scalable materials

We use simple, low-cost materials: sand, steel, and sun. Our systems are easy to maintain and designed for minimal downtime, keeping your operations running efficiently

Efficient Solar Collection

Efficient solar collection

Our solar collectors are engineered to capture thermal energy directly. Unlike PV panels that lose energy converting light to electricity, we capture heat at its source with market-leading efficiency.

  • High-grade thermal output
  • 4 x more space efficient than solar PV

Thermal sand storage

We store the solar heat in sand—abundant, cheap, and safe. Heated to high temperatures, sand can retain energy for long periods with minimal loss.

  • Operating temperatures up to 1000°C
  • Storage from days to months
  • No degradation over time
  • Fire-safe, non-toxic, and low-maintenance

Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding the future of energy storage.

Not directly. The innovative charging system of Solstice Storage is exclusively connected to direct sunlight. However, the system can be equipped with a secondary charging system powered by electricity from the grid, which can be sourced from wind.
Absolutely. Sand is non-toxic, non-flammable, and chemically inert. Our system has no risk of thermal runaway or chemical fires, making it safe to install adjacent to industrial facilities or residential districts.
Yes — especially in summer due to the long daylight hours. In the winter, however, it serves primarily as an electrically charged thermal storage system.
Energy can be stored as long as needed; however, in most cases, the storage cycle is daily to match energy price fluctuations. Longer-term (even seasonal) storage is also possible with additional insulation and business case adaptations.
The core sand storage medium does not degrade over time, unlike chemical batteries. The mechanical components are designed for a 40+ year operational life, making it one of the most durable energy storage solutions available.
Lithium-ion batteries are ideal for fast response and short-duration storage (1–4 hours), while our thermal storage is designed for long-duration energy shifting (8–100+ hours) at a much lower cost per stored MWh, with a longer lifetime and no degradation. In practice, batteries handle seconds-to-minutes grid balancing, while we deliver affordable, dispatchable power over hours to days — making the technologies complementary rather than competing.

Our Mission

To accelerate the world's transition to renewable, fossil-free industrial heat.

Solstice Storage Team

"We are revolutionizing the storage of solar energy."

We develop high-temperature solar-thermal systems that replace fossil fuels in industrial processes. By delivering reliable, on-demand solar heat, we enable industry to decarbonise what matters most.
